PS NJOGU VISITS A SECTION OF KENYANS WORKING IN THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION SECTOR IN JERSEY

Tuesday, May 20, 2025(JERSEY)__Diaspora Affairs PS Roseline K. Njogu, CBS, led a delegation to visit Kenyan professionals working in the early childhood education at Centre Point Nursery in Jersey, United Kingdom.

The PS was joined by Hon. Lydia Haika, MP and Chair of the Diaspora and Migrant Workers Committee, as well as Hon. Bashir Sheikh Abdullahi, MP and Member of the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence & Foreign Relations.

This visit is part of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs’ ongoing initiative to promote ethical labour migration and broaden employment prospects for Kenyans overseas.

The delegation conducted a welfare assessment of the Kenyan staff in Jersey and met with the management of Centre Point Nursery—a prominent early childhood education institution on the island. The discussions explored the possibility of forming a partnership to recruit more Kenyan childcare professionals for Jersey and other Crown dependencies.

Key areas of engagement included enhancing pre-departure orientation, providing ongoing support to migrant workers, and ensuring that employment procedures comply with local childcare regulations. The goal is to support the smooth integration of Kenyan educators while upholding high standards in training, care, and worker protection.

PS Njogu lauded the institution’s management for prioritizing employee welfare and reiterated the Kenyan Government’s dedication to securing quality job opportunities abroad that also foster the transfer of valuable skills back to Kenya, particularly in the education sector.

Other officials present were Amb. Isaiah Kabira, Secretary – Skills, Investment & Entrepreneurship; Amb. Joseph Warui, Deputy Head of Mission, Kenya High Commission; Mr. Dick Safari, Director of Legal Services; and Mr. Cohen Munga’la, FSO. #KenyaJerseyTies #SDDAEngages
