Tuesday, November 18, 2025(KUWAIT)Ms. Irene Karari, Director in charge of the Skills and Expertise Division, joined Ambassador Halima Mohamud, Kenya’s Ambassador to Kuwait, for a courtesy call on the International Labour Organization (ILO) officials in Kuwait at the United Nations House, Kuwait.
The discussions centered on Kenya’s sustained engagement and commitment to promoting decent work and ensuring the protection of diaspora work force in the Gulf region.
Ms. Karari reaffirmed Kenya’s dedication to strengthening structured labour mobility pathways that align with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM) and international labour standards.
She highlighted Kenya’s adherence to GCM principles, including fair recruitment, access to essential services, skills development, and social benefit portability.
The parties proposed developing a structured collaboration framework between the State Department for Diaspora Affairs (SDDA) and ILO–Kuwait to advance GCM objectives. This partnership would include joint capacity-building sessions, the creation of awareness tools for diaspora workers, and the exchange of global best practices in labour governance.
The ILO–Kuwait office expressed readiness to provide technical support in standardizing and harmonizing Kenya’s pre-departure training curriculum for those seeking job opportunities in the GCC region.
Ambassador Halima commended ILO for its continued support in safeguarding the welfare of Kenyan diaspora workers in countries under the embassy’s jurisdiction.
