Thursday, November 13, 2025(NAIROBI)__On Wednesday, H.E Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, paid a visit to the State Department for Diaspora Affairs (SDDA).
The PCS visited the 24-hour Diaspora Call Center, the Counselling Unit and addressed SDDA staff.
The tour moved beyond a formal inspection when Dr. Mudavadi gained a firsthand, immersive experience of the center's critical role.
At the call center, the PCS personally received a live call from a distressed Kenyan who was seeking help to locate a relative. The relative had called from an unknown foreign number but had subsequently gone silent, a situation that highlighted the real-world anxieties the center manages daily.
Dr. Mudavadi was guided through the call center's comprehensive protocol, from the initial reception of a call to the point of escalating the issue for specialized intervention or resolving it conclusively. He observed the wide range of inquiries handled by the center, which span from urgent distress calls to inquiries from job-seekers exploring opportunities abroad.
Earlier, the Cabinet Secretary visited the department's counselling unit, where he witnessed the dedicated officers managing a variety of cases, including walk-ins, referrals, and individuals seeking psycho-social support through various interactive platforms.
Following the tour, Dr. Mudavadi met with the entire staff of the State Department Where he listened as each division outlined its role in supporting Kenyans in the diaspora. He specifically engaged with junior diplomats, advising them to uphold the highest standards of service.
"Put country first," he counseled. He added: "Always be dedicated and disciplined in your service to Kenya and her people, and exhibit patience and resilience in your day-to-day activities."
He reminded the staff of the responsibility they carry, entrusted by Kenyans to always represent the nation's best interests when addressing diaspora issues.
In a closed-door meeting with the department's senior leadership, Dr. Mudavadi commended them for building robust structures and laying a strong foundation for the three-year-old, award-winning State Department.
He challenged the leadership to continue being innovative in devising solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans abroad and to ensure Kenya retains its leading position in advancing the diaspora agenda on the African continent.
Concluding his visit, Dr. Mudavadi made a firm commitment to support initiatives that put the Kenyan diaspora first. He pledged to rally support across Government to align with President William Samoei Ruto's vision of fully integrating the diaspora into the nation's development agenda.
The visit served as a practical demonstration of what Dr. Mudavadi described as the Government's deliberate efforts to protect and champion the rights of Kenyans overseas. He commended PS Roseline Kathure Njogu and her team for their focused work in prioritizing the welfare of Kenyans in the diaspora.
