DIASPORA ENGAGEMENT- KENYAN DIASPORA IN JERSEY COMMENDED FOR EXEMPLARY WORK ETHIC

Tuesday, May 20, 2025(JERSEY)__The Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, CBS, graced the diaspora engagement forum for Kenyans living and working in Jersey.
Speaking at the event, PS Njogu lauded the Kenyan diaspora in Jersey for their exemplary work ethic, discipline, and dedication, noting that local employers consistently express pride and satisfaction with Kenyan workers.
“You are flying the Kenyan flag high through your hard work and integrity. Employers here have shared glowing feedback about the professionalism and commitment of Kenyan workers. We are proud of you,” the PS said.
The PS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the welfare of Kenyans abroad through broad policy reforms, diaspora services, and bilateral partnerships. She encouraged more Kenyans to take up emerging opportunities in Jersey and across the wider international labour market, assuring them of the government’s continued engagement to ensure their rights and dignity are upheld.
At the same event, Hon. Lydiah Haika, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Committee on Diaspora and Migrant Workers, urged Kenyans in Jersey to continue being ambassadors of excellence and to uphold the values of hard work and integrity. She reaffirmed Parliament’s interest in their welfare and acknowledged their role in strengthening Kenya’s global footprint.
Similarly, Hon. Bashir Abdullahi, Member of the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence & Foreign relations, highlighted the creation of dedicated parliamentary committees focused on the welfare and protection of Kenyans abroad.
He assured the diaspora community that these committees are actively working to influence legislation and policy that safeguards their interests, facilitates access to services, and enhances diaspora engagement.
The forum also provided an open platform for the diaspora community to share their aspirations and concerns, particularly around issues of work permits, cultural integration, and skills recognition. The Government of Jersey reiterated its support for deepening cooperation with Kenya in structured labour mobility and inclusive development.
The event brought together Kenyan professionals across various sectors, including construction, hospitality, and healthcare, to discuss their experiences, interact and connect with their fellow compatriots. #DiasporaFirst #GoKListens #KenyaDiaspora
