STAKEHOLDERS VALIDATION EXERCISE FOR THE DIASPORA INVESTMENT STRATEGY (2024-2027)

Wednesday, April 9, 2025(NAIVASHA)__Today, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs participated in the stakeholders’ validation exercise for the Diaspora Investment Strategy (2024-2027).

This pivotal initiative aims to unlock the potential of Kenyans living abroad by leveraging their financial and intellectual capital to drive national development.

In her remarks, Diaspora Affairs PS, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, highlighted the critical role of the diaspora as a key driver of socio-economic transformation. She emphasized that beyond remittances, the diaspora contributes significantly through skills transfer, innovation, and global networking.

The Diaspora Investment Strategy seeks to establish a structured, inclusive, and sustainable framework to deepen diaspora engagement in national development beyond monetary contributions.

The validation exercise brought together key stakeholders, including international partners such as GIZ, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the African Institute of Remittances (AIR), to ensure the strategy aligns with diaspora aspirations while addressing challenges they face when investing back home.

Highlights of the key interventions include; the creation of a Diaspora Bond; enhanced dissemination of investment information; packaging viable investment opportunities tailored specifically for diaspora communities, among others.

With robust support structures already in place through the Strategic Plan 2023–2027 and the recently launched Kenya Diaspora Policy 2024, the State Department is well-equipped to implement this strategy and drive prosperity for the Kenyan diaspora.

Speakers at the event included Mr. Amadou Cisse (Ag. CEO, African Institute for Remittances), Ms. Fridah Kibuko (GIZ-WIDU), Dr. Tamara Mughogho (Commonwealth Secretariat), Amb. Isaiya Kabira (Secretary-Investments, Skills and Entrepreneurship), and Mr. Boniface Munzala 'ndc' (K), Director/Head-SIR Division at SDDA.
