Tuesday, February 24, 2026(NAIROBI) – The State Department for Diaspora Affairs today presented before the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations in Parliament, outlining key policies, programmes, expenditure priorities, and budget ceilings in the 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS).

Representing Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu,CBS, Amb. Hellen Gichuhi, Secretary for Diaspora Welfare and Partnerships, and Amb. Isiaya Kabira, Secretary for Diaspora Investments, Skills, and Enterprise, briefed the committee, chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech, through the Department's indicative performance targets for FY 2026, proposed expenditure, and progress on 2025 BPS programmes.

Amb. Gichuhi highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster welfare services and protect Kenyans abroad. Key initiatives include enhanced case management for distressed nationals, improved coordination with Kenyan missions and host country authorities, pre-departure sensitization for migrant workers, and strategic partnerships to combat human trafficking.

The Department emphasized a commitment to faster emergency responses, legal support as needed, and sustained engagement to uphold the dignity and rights of Kenyans worldwide.

This briefing underscores the Government's resolve to prioritize diaspora welfare in national budgeting, ensuring robust support for Kenyans navigating opportunities and challenges overseas.
