 PRE-DEPARTURE TRAINING FOR POLAND-BOUND KENYAN YOUTH

Tuesday, September 9, 2025(NAIROBI)__Today, Ms. Emma Gicheha, Director/Head of the Welfare and Rights Division, Ms. Irene Karari, Director/Head of the Skills and Expertise Division, and Mr. Humphrey Okusimba conducted a comprehensive pre-departure training organized by the Apprentice Job Work (AJW) Africa for Kenyans preparing to travel to Poland.

During the session, the participants were sensitized on critical aspects of life abroad and on issues touching on welfare and rights as they settle in their host country.

Ms. Gicheha stressed on the need to understand host country’s labor laws, available mechanisms for redress and the Government’s role in providing support. She further highlighted the importance of cultural integration, urging Kenyans to respect local laws and customs, embrace diversity, foster unity among other Kenyans and also serve as good ambassadors of the country.

On her part, Ms. Karari encouraged the participants to maximize on the available opportunities in Poland to grow professionally, urging them to leverage their qualifications and talent, while also seeking avenues to further develop their skills and knowledge in order to remain relevant and competitive in the global labor market.

She further emphasized technology transfer, encouraging them to adopt innovations and best practices abroad that could be applied back home upon their return.

On matters of financial empowerment, Mr. Humphrey Okusimba, Deputy Director in the Savings, Investment and Remittances Division highlighted the significance of disciplined saving, safe remittance channels and available investment opportunities in Kenya.

He noted that remittances are not only a lifeline for families but also a powerful driver of national economic growth and encouraged them to adopt long-term financial planning that extends beyond immediate consumption.

Pre-departure trainings are vital in equipping Kenyans with the knowledge, awareness and practical tools needed to thrive abroad, reducing risks associated with migration while ensuring labor mobility translates into personal success for migrants and broader socio-economic benefits for Kenya.

This initiative further reflects the State Department’s efforts in ensuring that Kenyans looking to travel abroad are well-prepared, protected and empowered to succeed while maintaining strong ties with their homeland, Kenya.
