TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION-THE DIASPORA CONNECTION

Wednesday, September 10, 2025(NAIROBI)__Ambassador Isaiya Kabira, Secretary for Diaspora Investments and Entrepreneurship, representing Principal Secretary Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu, attended the official launch of the Qubit Hub Research Center—an initiative by Qhala in partnership with Amini.AI and Angani—alongside government officials, private sector representatives, and technology leaders.

During a panel discussion, Amb. Kabira underscored the crucial role of the Kenyan diaspora in fostering innovation and collaboration beyond Africa. He emphasized that brain circulation—essential to sustaining the end-to-end cycle of labor mobility through the transfer of knowledge, skills, and technology back home—is fundamental to shaping Kenya’s and the continent’s AI ecosystem.

Amb. Kabira pointed out that many Kenyans abroad are already excelling in data science, fintech, research, and emerging technologies, giving the diaspora a comparative advantage in driving Africa’s digital transformation.

The Qubit Hub serves as a pan-African platform dedicated to AI research, talent development, and startup acceleration. Amb. Kabira reiterated that the government is prioritizing digital technologies and AI as key enablers of development across sectors. He added that integrating AI and innovation into policy frameworks will enable diaspora talent to directly contribute to national programs, ensuring sustainable impact.

Furthermore, Amb. Kabira encouraged the diaspora to leverage their expertise, research, networks, and AI-driven solutions to enhance the continent’s growth and competitiveness. He affirmed the government’s commitment to fostering an innovation-friendly environment.

With the launch of the Qubit Hub Research Centre, AI and emerging technologies represent new frontiers for partnership between the diaspora, government, and industry stakeholders.
