Friday, 22nd August 2025(KANGAITA, KIRINYAGA)--The State Department for Diaspora Affairs, in collaboration with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), the Kenya Forest Service, and local community members, has conducted a significant tree-planting exercise at the Kangaita Forest in Kirinyaga County.
The initiative saw the planting of 5,000 indigenous tree seedlings, directly contributing to the national goal of rehabilitating degraded forest ecosystems.
This effort is a tangible implementation of President William Ruto’s national pledge to have15 billion trees planted by 2032, a cornerstone of Kenya's strategy to expand forest and tree cover, combat deforestation, and enhance climate resilience.
In a demonstration of its commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship, the delegation also conducted a follow-up visit to a previously rehabilitated section of the forest to monitor progress and evaluate the survival rate of earlier plantings.
This ensures that reforestation initiatives deliver measurable and lasting environmental benefits.
