COLLABORATIVE ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN KENYA’S DIASPORA AFFAIRS AND IRELAND’S ABROAD UNIT

Wednesday, March 12, 2025(NAIROBI)___Amb. Hellen Gichuhi, Secretary for Diaspora Welfare & Partnerships, met with officials from Ireland’s Abroad (Diaspora) Unit at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, led by its Director, Mr.  Karl Gardner.

The discussions centered on areas of mutual interest between Kenya and Ireland concerning diaspora-related issues, including welfare, investment opportunities, and strengthening policies to support social and economic growth.

Amb. Gichuhi and Mr. Gardner highlighted key initiatives undertaken by their respective departments to enhance diaspora engagement and contributions to national development while safeguarding the rights and interests of their diaspora communities.

A significant portion of the meeting focused on addressing challenges faced by diaspora communities in both countries.  Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to tackling these obstacles and strengthening future engagements with their respective diaspora populations.

The meeting was attended by Nicola Brassil, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Ireland; Ann Mutonyi, Trade Officer at the Embassy of Ireland; Mr. Edwin Limo, Director for Liaison and Partnerships; and Mr. Eugene Makokha, Deputy Director for Liaison and Partnerships.
