Monday, August 24, 2026(NAIROBI)__Baby Precious Wambui has finally been reunited with her mother, Ms. Peninah Wanjiru.
The handover was officiated by Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, who was joined by her counterpart from the State Department for Children Services, CPA Caren Ageng'o, in formally reuniting the baby with her mother.
Baby Precious, who was born in Saudi Arabia, became the focus of a coordinated repatriation effort led by the Government of Kenya through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, with critical support from the Kenya Embassy in Riyadh and multiple other government agencies.
The mother and child were separated in early 2025, prompting the government to initiate urgent diplomatic and administrative processes to bring the baby home.
The successful repatriation underscores the State Department's growing mandate to protect vulnerable Kenyan citizens abroad. Since its establishment in December 2022, the department has now facilitated the return of eight minors from foreign countries, a milestone that PS Njogu highlighted during the ceremony.
She praised the Kenya Embassy in Riyadh and all government entities involved for their tireless efforts in ensuring Baby Precious's safe return, noting that such collaborations reflect Kenya's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its diaspora community.
The reunion was witnessed by officers from both the Diaspora Affairs and Children Services departments, as well as family members of Baby Precious, who gathered to welcome the child home.
