Tuesday, May 26, 2026(NAIROBI)__Hon. Dr. Isaac Mwaura, Government Spokesperson, today accompanied a Botswana delegation on a courtesy call on Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu, CBS, Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs.

The visitors, Mr. Molefe Keteletso, Presidential Envoy on Employment, and Mr. Tumelo Selolwane, Chief of Staff at Botswana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are in Kenya for a bench-marking exercise on diaspora governance and labour mobility.

In the meeting, PS Njogu outlined key interventions by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs to protect and empower Kenyan workers abroad.

She described Kenya’s progress in negotiating structured Bilateral Labour Mobility Agreements with destination countries, instituting standardized pre-departure training, and strengthening regulatory oversight through coordinated action with relevant agencies to curb exploitation.

Ms. Njogu also highlighted enhanced consular support for Kenyans overseas and the rollout of digital platforms designed to streamline diaspora engagement, facilitate remittances, and link investors with opportunities at home.

The session explored strategies to mobilize diaspora skills, savings, and investments for national development, and discussed reintegration frameworks to ensure returning Kenyans can apply skills acquired abroad within the local economy.

Speakers agreed that the diaspora play a pivotal role across Africa as drivers of remittances, skills transfer, innovation, and investment. They noted that structured labour mobility and knowledge exchange can deepen cooperation, strengthen bilateral ties, and advance shared development priorities between Kenya and Botswana.
