Friday, September 4, 2026(MOMBASA)___Mr. Humphrey Okusimba, Ag. Head of the Savings, Investments and Remittances Division, led a Diaspora Affairs team during a strategic meeting with the Mombasa Cultural Village group at the Mombasa International Show, as part of the SDDA’s Diaspora Mashinani initiative.
The meeting, held with Ms. Joyce Ndung’u and Ms. Gladys Kwamboka of the Mombasa Cultural Village, sought to explore a potential partnership to enhance cultural heritage perspective for diaspora families visiting Kenya. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs, through cultural diplomacy, continues to prioritize initiatives that strengthen the connection between Kenyans abroad and their homeland-Kenya.
SDDA recognizes the critical role of cultural heritage in fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging, particularly among second- and third-generation Kenyans growing up in the diaspora.
Discussions focused on understanding the cultural activities and experiences offered by the Mombasa Cultural Village and identifying ways to promote them within Kenyan diaspora communities. Special attention was given to creating opportunities for diaspora families and younger generations to engage with Kenya’s diverse cultural heritage in practical and meaningful ways.
The engagement further examined possible linkages between cultural heritage, tourism, enterprise development, and diaspora investment. Key areas of potential collaboration included integrating cultural visits into diaspora homecoming programmes, facilitating cultural exchange initiatives, and exploring business linkages, partnerships, and investment opportunities in cultural, creative, and tourism-related enterprises.
Through this proposed partnership, SDDA aims to contribute to the preservation and transmission of Kenya’s cultural heritage, strengthen intergenerational connections among Kenyans abroad, and promote investment in the country’s cultural and creative sectors.
