Tuesday, September 16, 2025(EMBU)__In a strategic move to bolster its support services, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs is conducting an intensive, week-long Mental Wellness and Psycho-social Capacity Building Workshop for its personnel at the Kenya School of Government in Embu.
This critical training initiative, organized by the State Department's Counselling Unit led by its Head, Mr. Peter Burugu, is a collaborative effort with the State Department for Public Service and the Ministry of Health.
This workshop underscores the Government's commitment to continuously equipping its officers with cutting-edge skills. The curriculum is designed to empower staff with modern, evidence-based techniques for addressing the full spectrum of mental wellness challenges—from preventative measures and early intervention to curative mechanisms.
This enhanced expertise is vital for effectively serving Kenyans in the Diaspora experiencing distress, their families within Kenya, and for fostering the department's own internal staff well-being.
Diaspora Affairs PS, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, CBS, was represented by Mr. Gideon Gichana, the Senior Chief Finance Officer, accompanied by Ms. Carol Nderi, Deputy Director of Human Resource Management and Development (HRM & D).
The training directly strengthens the Department's flagship program of providing immediate psychosocial first aid to evacuated and repatriated Kenyans upon their arrival home, ensuring a compassionate and competent response for those in crisis and ensuring seamless referrals to specialized care.
