DIASPORA AFFAIRS JOINS WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS COMMEMORATION IN NAKURU

Wednesday, July 30, 2025(NAKURU)__The State Department for Diaspora Affairs (SDDA) participated today in the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons event held in Nakuru County, themed “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime—End Exploitation.”
The event brought together a diverse group of participants including government and non-governmental agencies, community-based organizations, religious leaders, opinion and youth leaders, national administration officers, and survivors of human trafficking. It was organized by the State Department for Children’s Welfare under the led by Mr. Shem Nyakutu, Secretary for Children Services.
Representing Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu,CBS, Ms. Emma Gicheha, Director and Head of the Welfare and Rights Division, attended the event which commenced at the Railway Grounds in Nakuru and proceeded in a procession to the Nakuru ASK Grounds.
At the showgrounds, various stakeholders shared their experiences, discussed current measures, and deliberated on the way forward in fighting human trafficking.
Ms. Gicheha, whose division plays a critical role in the evacuation and repatriation of Kenyans victimized by trafficking networks, emphasized that the Government is intensifying efforts to clamp down on perpetrators through a comprehensive whole-of-government strategy.
She urged the youth to stay alert, #KaaChonjo, and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals suspected of engaging in behaviors that could lead to trafficking.
The day’s theme was powerfully conveyed through plays, music, poetry, and comedy, all reinforcing the call to #EndHumanTrafficking and #EndExploitation.
