Tuesday, July 7, 2026(NAIROBI)__The Government of Kenya through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs today formalized a new partnership with the AHK Services Eastern Africa Limited, to expand ethical talent and skills mobility between Kenya and Germany.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Nairobi, Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu, CBS, described the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a major step toward creating structured, mutually beneficial migration pathways and strengthening skills exchange.

The MoU signed by PS Njogu and Ms. Dagmar von Bohnstein, Delegate of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa, builds on the Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership signed in Berlin in September 2024 and aims to translate that framework into practical opportunities for Kenyan workers and professionals.

“Labour, talents and skills mobility is a key driver of economic transformation,” Ms. Njogu said, noting that well-managed migration fosters knowledge transfer, deepens bilateral ties and bolsters the domestic economy through remittances.

She highlighted language certification as a significant barrier for Kenyans seeking opportunities in Germany and announced steps to expand access to German language examinations.

Ms. Njogu commended AHK Services Eastern Africa for partnering with the Government to promote ethical recruitment and sustainable mobility pathways, saying the collaboration will help ensure qualified Kenyans can compete fairly in the global labour market.

She also used the occasion to invite German investors to deepen ties with Kenya, pointing to opportunities in ICT, manufacturing, agribusiness, renewable energy and real estate.

“Kenya remains one of Africa’s most dynamic economies,” she said, adding that labour mobility complements investment by strengthening trade links and producing ambassadors for Kenyan talent abroad.

The Principal Secretary reiterated the State Department’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Kenyans overseas and to building inclusive programmes that serve all members of the diaspora.

She thanked AHK Services Eastern Africa, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and other stakeholders for their collaboration, and the role played in the fruition of the MoU signing.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the German Industry and Commerce delegation, Government officials, private sector leaders and diaspora stakeholders.

PS Njogu was accompanied by Ms. Irene Karari, Director in Charge of the Skills and Expertise Division; Mr. Glenns Etyang, Director-Office of the Principal Secretary; Ms. Anne Mruche, Deputy Director; Ms. Ayan Abdi, FSO; Ms. Nikki Matika, FSO and  Mr. Abdilbasid Hassan, FSO.
