The State Department for Diaspora Affairs is one of the two state departments in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs also abbreviated SDDA was established through a directive from H.E the President Dr. William Ruto in 2022 to address issues that concern Kenya’s Diaspora community. The Government of Kenya therefore intends to engage the Kenyan Diaspora in a more constructive, inclusive and productive manner to unlock and unleash their full potential. The department derives its mandate from the Executive Order No. 1 of 2023 on Organization of the Government of the Republic of Kenya which is:
Mandate
Champion the protection of the rights and promotion of the welfare and interest of kenyans overseas.
Promotion of continous dialogue with kenyans abroad.
Support Kenyans in the Diaspora in harnessing more opportunities for employment and enterprise development.
In liason with other stakeholders promote the participation of Kenya's diaspora in democratic processes in the country.
Develop Incentive framework for Diaspora Remittances.
Harness Diaspora savings, facilitate Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) and Technology transfers.
Liason with the Ministry of Labour in implementation of the Labour Migration Policy as well as the Global Labour Strategy.
In conjuction with the Ministry of Labour secure the placement of Kenyans abroad.
Mainstreaming the Kenyan Diaspora into the national development process.
