Hernia International Pays a Courtesy Call to PS Njogu

Following a successful medical camp at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital (MeTRH), Dr. Leah Moriasi, the hospital's CEO, and a team of surgeons from Hernia International paid a courtesy call to PS Roseline Kathure Njogu at the State Department for Diaspora Affairs.

The camp, which focused on assessing, diagnosing, and managing hernia, saw over 100 patients screened and 39 surgeries performed, including complex procedures like splenectomies and trauma exploratory laparotomies. 53 patients received treatment, with the youngest being just 6 months old.

During the meeting, PS Njogu shared the State Department’s mandate and highlighted the crucial role of the Kenyan diaspora in the country’s development. She encouraged Hernia International to explore more ways of involving diaspora medical professionals in their work, emphasizing how valuable their skills are in improving the healthcare sector in Kenya.

Dr. Moriasi commended the initiative, noting how important it was in addressing the hernia burden in the region. The collaboration between Hernia International and the SDDA was made possible by Mr. Peter Karanja a UK-based Kenyan Diaspora.

Present at the meeting were Amb. Ann Wanjohi, Director of Liaison and Partnerships, Mr. Ledama Meisashi (OPS), and Ms. Auma Aluodo-FSO, Mr. Hussein Bire-FSO and Mr. John Muindi-FSO.
